Which bad habit are you bringing back?
Georgia Gooding theorises on how you’ll regress while back at home
Lent term is finally over and the majority of us are back in our childhood bedrooms. Such a strange, abrupt transition – one minute you’re an adult, independent, moving back and forth between Sidge and Mainsbury’s at your own pace. The next: you’re seventeen again, being ordered about the house by your mother and falling asleep to the sight of your covid-era Friends poster.
That teenage life has its ups and downs. The blissful ignorance, for example, is always a welcome change of pace. Having put significant distance between yourself and Cambridge, it’s easier to forget about the packed timetables and supo stress, and all that awaits you upon your return. At home, kept busy by dog walks and Tesco trips, you’re forced to focus more on what’s directly in front of you.
Unfortunately, though, this blast to the past can have problematic effects – namely, that certain old, ugly habits from your teen days rear their ugly head again. After all, it’s almost impossible not to slip right back into your old ways. The question is: what does this look like for you?
Which all-the-rage TV show are you desperate to catch up on during the holidays?
A) Bridgerton season four.
B) Everything. The sofa dent and chocolate wrappers are proof of your endurance.
C) Louis Theroux: Inside the Manosphere.
D) Love Story. Ain’t no party like a Kennedy party!
The parents are at work – what are you making for lunch?
A) A pot noodle will do; nutrition can wait ’till dinner.
B) They’d rather you didn’t cook, given the state of the kitchen afterwards.
C) Pasta – but with all the dancing and dillydallying, it will take years to make. You’ve got to make the most of having the kitchen to yourself!
E) You’re just getting around to having breakfast.
What are your plans for Easter Sunday?
A) Looking as busy as possible while everyone else prepares dinner.
B) Ripping open Easter eggs like there’s no tomorrow.
C) Bringing up politics at the worst possible moment.
D) Getting lit with your granny – a family that drinks together, stays together!
How are you making money to get you through next term?
A) You’re not… Your parents said you need to rest and who are you to argue?
B) You’re a Vinted warrior; the pile of clothes in the corner of your room is work!
C) You work at a kids’ holiday camp – safe to say you’re overstimulated when you get home.
D) The ‘how’ is unimportant, it all gets spent that night anyway.
If you got mostly As…
You’re reverting to full sloth mode. Whichever option requires the least effort is going to dictate how you spend your Easter holidays. You may enjoy watching Sophie clock in for the Bridgertons, but the grind is not calling you personally.
If you got mostly Bs…
Whatever you get up to these next few weeks, rest assured: you will be leaving a mess in your wake. Granted, this is not much of a change from term time, but your messiness will reach new heights during this break. You’re determined to renounce order before Easter term demands it!
If you got mostly Cs…
Unluckily for your family, you’ll be channeling your old self in the worst way: you’re legitimately evil. No matter what they say or don’t say, you somehow have a problem with it. Don’t worry, though, it will wear off as you get some much-needed rest – then the guilt will hit.
If you got mostly Ds…
You are living it up. Remember your school days, when you didn’t spend all weekend in the library? Yeah, that. You’re making the most of being home and, as a result, you’re barely actually at home. Staying out late, sleeping in even later – it’s what the holidays are all about!
