Blind Date: ‘In an ideal world there would’ve been a little flirting’
Peter and Sophia meet at the Granta for a blind date
Peter on Sophia
So, how did you approach the date?
I mean, I didn’t know what to expect but we just found a table, sat down, and started chatting – it was pretty good!
How come you signed up?
Well, my friends discovered the Blind Dates and were like “you might as well!”
Was that your attitude, too?
Yeah, I mean it’s Week Eight already so it’s not really a big deal.
What was your first impression of her?
She seemed very friendly, very chatty – very easy to talk to.
“Conversation only really paused once”
How did the night flow?
Pretty easily, I’d say. Conversation only really paused once when one of us went to the toilet.
What kind of topics did you get onto?
Well, there were the obvious questions of how studying is going, exams etc.
Did you manage to get a sense of the vibe between you guys?
Yeah, I mean, it went pretty well, but I wasn’t 100% sure if it was going to go anywhere further. I could definitely see myself being good friends with her, though, she’s a really nice person, it was a really nice conversation.
Do you think there’s any particular reason for that?
I think potentially timing – we’re so close to term ending and we live in different places…
What’s your takeaway from the night?
I guess that, worst case, I’ve made someone I’ll at least be friends with. It was just a good time!
Do you think you’ll see her again?
There is a small intersection of our circles, and we might both be going to MASH tonight….
“We might both be going to MASH tonight…”
If you see her, will you say “hi”?
Probably, yeah!
And what would you rate the night on a scale from one to ten?
A solid eight.
Sophia on Peter
So, how was it when you met?
Well, as a person I’m not great at meeting people for the first time, but it all felt pretty natural!
What did you think of him?
He was really lovely to talk to!
How did things kick off?
We started with small talk and then we talked for literally three hours straight.
Sounds positive!
Yeah, and we found out we had a couple of people in common, so it didn’t feel like we were complete strangers.
Well, what did you talk about?
Just a lot about our Cambridge experiences – how we’ve both dealt with the social aspects of being here. It’s pretty surface level stuff, I guess, but felt like it went quite a bit deeper. We were genuinely interested in hearing what the other person had to say.
“We talked for literally three hours straight”
Do you think there was chemistry there?
I don’t know because I don’t think he was flirting with me… so I don’t know if there was chemistry, but even if there wasn’t he’s a lovely person!
Did you exchange details?
He DM’d me last night and asked how I was getting on with my work – I’d had to leave to go do it.
No mention of a second date, then?
We did mention it in passing last night – we’re both meant to be going to MASH tonight so I might see him there – but we’ll see how the DMs go…
Would you talk to him tonight?
I mean I don’t have anything new to say, but if I get drunk enough I’m sure I’ll give him a life story!
Any memorable moments from the whole night?
Well, the woman next to us had a witches’ cackle, and the people at the other table were having a really interesting conversation, so we lowkey just eavesdropped at times. But, in general, we just got on – that was all I had hoped for!
And, finally, what would you rate the date from one to ten?
Seven and a half? In an ideal world there would’ve been a little flirting…
After the interviews, Sophia and Peter briefly saw each other in MASH and have arranged to meet again in Revs on Wednesday!
