The 1st team in BristolTanya Li

Cambridge 1st vs Bristol 1st

The women's tennis first team had a surprisingly stress-free journey to play against Bristol University. Unfortunately, the girls were not as successful as the second team, but there was plenty of brilliant play on court.

The day kicked off with some doubles. The double M's (Monika and Miho) were up against a highly energetic pair, and despite having some rapid and dynamic points, lost 4-6 4-6. However the double J's (Jenni and Jane), overpowered their opponents with some great aces and volleys by a score of 6-4 4-6 10-8.

Then came the singles. First on were Monika and Jane. Monika, with 120 per cent concentration and footwork, thrashed her counterpart by an epic score of 6-2 6-4.

Jane, who was battling out on the court next to Monika, produced some excellent angle shots, down the line winners and aces. However, her opponent came on top, ending with a score of 3-6 2-6.

Next on court were Miho and Jenni. Although producing some aces, Miho's inconsistency began to creep through, finishing with a score of 4-6 0-6.

The match of the day was probably Jenni – although losing 1-6 7-5 4-10, the match consisted of amazingly long rallies and smashing winners.

Despite having a tough day, the girls played some great tennis, and the three freshers should be proud to call themselves experts on the London train networking system.

Cambridge 2nd vs Leicester 2nd

The women's tennis second team travelled to Corby to play against Leicester University, and the girls were once again triumphant, losing only one singles match overall.

The day began with singles – unorthodox but the team remained undeterred. Georgina was on and off the court in a flash of the eye, completing her 6-0 6-1 victory in record speed.

Anna had a shaky start, losing her first service game. However, she then went on the win the next 12 games consecutively and by the end of the 6-1 6-0 victory, the opening game was all but forgotten.

Leah had a similarly straightforward win, allowing her opponent only 2 games as she stormed to a 6-0 6-2 victory.

Chloe had by far the toughest match as her opponent cleverly manipulated the ball around the court. She put in a fine performance in the second set but unfortunately it was too little too late and her opponent came out triumphant.

Next up, the doubles. Georgina and Leah had a match quick enough to rival that of Georgina's singles as they failed to drop a game.

Anna and Chloe had a more competitive match. Having been 5-2 up in the first set their opponents managed to claw it back to 6-5. Stakes and tempers were high as Anna and Chloe were forced to change courts at the most crucial point of the match – an occurrence one doesn't often see at Wimbledon. Nevertheless, the dynamic duo pulled out all the stops (and shots) to clinch the next game and the tie break. The start of the next set came with another change of courts as the team continued to make good use of Corby Tennis Club's facilities. Once more the pair saw themselves 5-2 up and this time they showed no mercy, finishing the set 6-3 to take the match 7-6 6-3.

Once more the team returned to Cambridge happy, victorious and eager to continue their unbeaten winning streak.
