Football: Jesus thrash Queens’ to begin Cuppers defence
Dominant display ensures the defending champions remain strong favourites to retain their crown

Jesus began their defence of the Women and Non-Binary Cuppers in style, with the Reds storming to a 9–0 victory over Queens’ Greens.
The Jesus team was utterly dominant, showcasing incisive passing and ruthless finishing. Beattie Green and Anna Herr dazzled in the midfield, while striker Gabriela Bisinoto was lethal in front of goal, netting four times.
The encounter was scrappy in the opening stages, with long-balls going back-and-forth. Spurred on by winger Izzy Lowe’s energy, Queens' started strong.
However, as the game settled down, Jesus took control. Beattie Green broke through on goal, forcing an outstanding save from Queens' keeper Shannon Grimes. Minutes later, Jesus were back up the pitch, with Green orchestrating again. A delicate through-ball found Leah Gomes, whose cut-back was finished off by Bisinoto.

Energised by the goal, the Reds continued to threaten. Grimes produced several excellent saves, but Jesus showed their clinical edge. Leah Gomes, Anna Herr, and Kaya Hardie all slotted home from close-range to make it 4–0 at the break.
Queens' made a spirited start to the second half, containing Jesus’ attack for the first ten minutes. Hardie broke the deadlock, with a powerful shot finding the bottom-left corner. Chances began to flow, and Jesus put the game beyond doubt. Bisinoto netted three times in ten minutes to make it 8–0, before Beattie finished superbly for a well-deserved goal.
After this emphatic win, holders Jesus are strong favourites to reclaim the Cuppers crown.
