Cambridge student Emma Jones selected by Oval Invincibles
Jones will join the squad for the remainder of The Hundred competition
Emma Jones, a Cambridge undergraduate who studies Veterinary Medicine at Emmanuel College, was yesterday (09/08) selected by the Oval Invincibles to compete in the remainder of The Hundred competition, which runs until 21st August.
The announcement was made on Twitter by her current side, South East Stars, and was met with a welcoming flow of support. Her father, William Jones, tweeted: “Well done - go well and enjoy the experience!”, while another fan responded: “Brilliant news, Emma. Richly deserved”.

Over the course of the last year, Jones has fielded for Sawbridgeworth Cricket Club, Bishop’s Stortford Ladies and Essex Women respectively. Since coming to Cambridge, she has represented Cambridge University Cricket Club on multiple occasions, most notably with an unbelievable performance of 206 not out against the University of Nottingham back in April (28/04). Meanwhile, Jones suffered defeat to Oxford in the following month’s T20 Varsity, despite an impressive effort of 63 runs in 51 balls.
Jones’s call-up comes after her recent appearances in the Charlotte Edwards Cup, boasting a solid run of form in the opportunities given to her by the Stars. On finding out about her selection, Jones described it as “a bit of a whirlwind”: “I’d come to watch the match on Monday [Invincibles vs Welsh Fire] and was planning to watch Sunday’s game [against Trent Rockets], but then I ended up in the squad”. Unfortunately, the weekend’s fixture was abandoned due to rain.
Looking ahead to her coming time with the Invincibles, Jones is set to take on London Spirit this Saturday (14/08) at the Kia Oval, as her side currently sits third in the table for The Hundred Women’s competition.
Varsity congratulates Emma on her achievement and wishes her the best of luck in The Hundred.
