Cambridge Union to host Charlie Kirk and Katie Price
The release of the Easter term card highlights 11 speaker events and six debates for the term

The Cambridge Union’s Easter term has been released, featuring a series of high-profile and controversial speakers, including right-wing activist Charlie Kirk who is set to speak in May (20/05).
Kirk, the founder of the right-wing non-profit Turning Point USA has previously described universities as “islands of totalitarianism” and has attracted controversy for his stances on climate change, racism, abortion, and COVID-19.
Kirk was set to speak at a debate for the Cambridge Union in 2019, but the event was cancelled because Turning Point UK, a branch of the United States organisation, had invited speakers without seeking prior approval from the Union.
Justin Welby, who resigned as Archbishop of Canterbury in January due to criticism over his handling of sexual abuse allegations within the Church, is also set to speak at the Union on Monday the 12th of May.
Other speakers include Katie Price, a British media personality, model, and singer; Nadhim Zahawi, the former Chancellor of the Exchequer who was dismissed as Chairman of the Tory Party; Ilan Pappé, an Israeli historian and political activist who has criticised Israel’s treatment of Palestinians, and Mary Trump, a psychologist, writer, and outspoken critic of her uncle, President Trump.
Easter term's Union President Anoushka Kale, said: “Now, more than ever, amidst a turbulent global landscape, the importance of free speech can never be understated. I encourage you to exercise and celebrate your right to it in the Chamber to the fullest.”
“On the 60th year anniversary of the historic Baldwin vs. Buckley debate, we remember the importance of the conversations we have in this Chamber, because nobody and nothing should be beyond reproach or free from criticism,” she added.
The Union will also hold six debates this term, on topics ranging from climate justice, to the rise of Reform UK, to the abolition of the monarchy.
Madeleine Matthews, Equalities Officer for Easter 2025 said: “I’m proud to be platforming a range of different viewpoints this term, from actor George Robinson to YouTuber IbzMo to entrepreneur Christopher Williams, as well as a panel on the future of reproductive technologies, some CamCOP events, and our equalities debate on climate justice.”
“I hope this term reflects our ongoing commitment to making the Union a space for all voices to be heard,” she added.
