Basketball Blues in fine form
Cambridge comfortably beat RAF Ladies 53-31
After an emphatic 77-6 victory against the Oxford second team, the Blues went into this game against the RAF ladies on a high and with a strong side. Unperturbed by the RAF’s early zone defence, captain Catherine Nezich quickly went to work, driving to the basket for easy layups. Katerina Glyniadaki made the most of her height advantage, grabbing rebounds at will and making some powerful moves in the post.
Taking an easy lead early on, Cambridge looked to up the pace in the second and third quarters by playing a full-court press. This quickly paid dividends, as Cambridge turned the ball over for fast-break layups and extend their lead.
The RAF team switched to man-to-man D towards the end of the second half in an attempt to stop the bleeding, but it was too late and a confident Cambridge side continued to dominate, with the final score 53-31.
Cambridge will seek to build on this win when they face Oxford seconds again next this week, as the focus moves to the Varsity match later this term.
