Trinity have taken the Division 1 title after Downing and Homerton played out an exciting 2-2 draw, which means that Trinity cannot be caught at the top of the table. Trinity captain Matt Smith who was spectating on the sideline will be delighted to have guaranteed the title after a strong season.

In a thrilling match of football, Downing went two down within minutes due to defensive errors and mistakes in midfield. But they showed great resilience to fight back to 2-2 and take a well-deserved point, which leaves them in second with one game to play.

Homerton looked sharp in the opening encounters and were quick to pick up on some stray Downing passes. Within two minutes they took the lead as a poor pass allowed them to break quickly down the right and score with a confident finish.

Moments later they were at it again as confusion in the Downing defense let in their strike to double the advantage.

Homerton had their opponents rattled and were playing the ball around nicely. They had an opportunity to extend their lead as a quick free-kick caught their opposition unawares but the effort from outside the box could only roll harmlessly wide of the post.

However, Downing worked hard to pull themselves back into the game and started to increase their urgency and seize the initiative. James Corcut in midfield turned his man and sent a shot from 30 yards just over the bar.

And as half-time was approaching Downing managed to pull one back. Corcut's free-kick from just inside the Homerton half was picked up at the back post by midfielder Tom Nutt who drilled his shot low and hard past the goalkeeper to make it 2-1 at the break.

The teams returned for the second half with Downing looking the more determined. Some nice passing in midfield led to a chance for winger Liang Zhang but Homerton's keeper was alert to the danger and snuffed out the danger.

Then as a Downing attack broke down the ball rolled out to Corcut outside the area who drilled home a shot which flew over Homerton's keeper and into the net to draw the scores level at 2-2, which is how the game went on to finish.

The result means that Trinity cannot be caught at the top of the table and that they are the winners of this season's league to add to their Supercuppers win earlier in the season in Oxford.

Downing, Homerton and Emma will battle it out for second next week.
