Overlooked: Top Five Fight Scenes
This week, Alice brings you her top 5 under-rated fight scenes from across the board. And you can forget about Rambo.
5 – The Phantom Menace – Darth Maul vs Obi Wan & Qui Gon

Terrible film, awesome scene. Very probably the only reason to ever watch The Phantom Menace. Darth Maul is the ultimate Sith and this is without doubt the best fight scene from all 6 movies – double ended light saber? Oh yes!
4 – Snatch – One-Punch Mickey vs. Good Night Anderson

Guy Richie’s greatest achievement. Brad Pitt’s pikey boxer attempts to hold himself back in this excessively violent and graphic bare-knuckle match. The choreography is great, as is the background narration by Jason Statham. All he’s gotta do is stay down ...
3 – House of Flying Daggers – Jin vs. Leo
This final battle is visually stunning as well as being incredibly moving. The stuntwork and choreography are exceptional, but what’s more impressive is the level of emotion throughout the scene, so fitting for the climax of such a beautiful film.
2 - Grosse Pointe Blank – Martin Blank vs. Felix La Pubelle
Who would’ve thought John Cusack could pull of suave hitman? This is one of the best non-action movie hand-to-hand fight scenes, with Cusack and opponent (stuntman Benny Urquidez) pulling some epic moves ricocheting off the lockers in a typical American high school corridor. The choice of “Mirror In the Bathroom” as a backing track is inspired.
1 – Oldboy – Oh Dae-Su vs. The Corridor

This is just an incredible piece of cinematography. Protagonist Min-sik Choi takes on an entire corridor of armed men using just a claw hammer and 13 years of pent-up rage. The choreography is absolutely exceptional, and the linear format of the fight itself is captivating as Dae-Su works his way through his attackers with unfaltering determination.
