Guildhall lit up for Baby Loss Awareness Week and World Mental Health Day
‘Both mental health and baby loss affect so many of us, but can also be incredibly hard to talk about’
Cambridge City Council has been raising awareness for Baby Loss Awareness Week this week by lighting up the Guildhall in blue and pink, the established colours of the campaign.
Baby Loss Awareness Week, now in its 19th year, is a national campaign that aims to support people affected by pregnancy and baby loss. This year’s theme is “Wellbeing”, and it takes place from the 11th to the 15th of October.
This is the second campaign that the Council has supported in recent days, with the Guildhall being decorated with purple light for World Mental Health Day on Sunday.
Commenting on the council’s efforts to raise awareness about the causes, Anna Smith, Executive Councillor for Communities and the new leader of Cambridge County Council, said: “I’m really pleased that we are lighting up the Guildhall to mark these two really important campaigns”.
She continued, stating: “Both mental health and baby loss affect so many of us, but can also be incredibly hard to talk about. By taking part in these campaigns, we hope we’ll be playing a small part in encouraging people to talk about what they are going through and to feel more able to seek help and support”.
The Council has said that the aim of the campaign this week is to support bereaved parents and families, raise greater awareness about baby loss and pregnancy loss, and campaign to improve care and support for anyone affected by pregnancy loss and baby loss.
