Selwyn students accidentally warned of ‘bomb alert’
Email warning ‘this is not a test’ and telling students to ‘please evacuate now’ was accidentally sent to members of Selwyn College
An email with the subject 'bomb alert' that ordered for people to 'PLEASE EVACUATE NOW, this is not a test' was accidentally sent to members of Selwyn College on Friday.
The email, which is a draft to be used in the event of an emergency, also said: "LOCK YOUR DOORS AS YOU LEAVE. Make your way to Robinson College IMMEDIATELY."
An anonymous Selwynite who received the email told Varsity: "While one cannot help find this mistake amusing and question why anyone would be targeting Selwyn over John's, it is clearly an accident.
"It must be stressed that it is a testament to the hard work [the head porter] puts in to protect Selwyn's students from all manner of risks that some sort of plan is in place."
Following the mishap, Selwyn's Head Porter issued an apology to all students:"you may have received an email about a bomb threat which you should ignore. This should only have gone to porters for them to keep in drafts."
"Many apologies for this and any distress or worry."
