"The Anchor has recently become a favourite of mine"Emaan Ullah

Some of us are in our second year, others third – and some even fourth. All of us, however, regardless of the amount of time we've spent in Cambridge, each have our own go-to spots – and spots yet to go to.

Emaan, Editor-in-Chief

Recommendation: The Griffin – a gem untapped, but plenty on tap, is none other than Homerton’s very own Griffin Bar. It’s beautifully designed, has cheap drinks (including a very good G&T), and is home to a top-tier playlist – courtesy of one of our bartenders.

Resolution: Girton College – I’ve been to all corners of Cambridge – but I’ve never ventured out of the city itself. Coupled with the fact I couldn’t possibly be any further, as well as my ambition to go to a formal at every single college, this makes for an ideal challenge.

Recommendation: The Anchor – whilst I practically live in The Griffin (Emaan’s recommendation), The Anchor has recently become a favourite of mine. It’s cosy, on the river (like the college I was pooled by) and occupies a special place in my heart as the site of many a Varsity social.

Resolution: The Tower of Great St Mary’s Church – despite being in my fourth year, I am yet to experience what I’m told is one of the best views in Cambridge. I’m hoping that this term will afford me a sunny day to make the 123 step climb!

Recommendation: Ta Bouche – judging by how long I have to wait to get a table. Every. Single. Time. I assume the whole entirety of Cambridge has heard of this cocktail bar but in case you haven’t, Sundays are their 2-for-1 cocktail night and they are incredible. It’s also a great spot for a date as most of their tables are for two people only.

Resolution: The Arts Picturehouse – the concept of an artsy cinema above a Spoons is surreal in itself, but just you wait until you watch their trailers. Russian murder satires (along with your classic blockbusters of course) and I’m here for it.

Juliette, Deputy Editor

Recommendation: Little Petra – it's a Mill Road gem.

Resolution: Kettle's Yard – finally make it to Kettle’s Yard. Or lecture halls - but preferably Kettle’s Yard.

Ellie, Digital Editor

Recommendation: The Portland Arms – if you love to boogie, but can’t seem to find a good club night in Cambridge or anyone willing to throw a house party other than your ex, this wonderful pub regularly hosts live gigs where you can dance your heart out and pretend to be a groupie at the same time - what fun!

Resolution: Noodles Plus – this mysterious venue tucked away down Mill Road has been on my to-do list all year, having been praised for its quality and value-for-money by quite a few of my foodie-fanatic friends now. While its appearance may mislead (although bright green walls are kind of iconic), I’m determined to make the trek for a taste of those yummy yummy dumplings - no matter how long (it’s <30 minutes, I’m just lazy) it takes to walk there.

Recommendation: Castle Mound – it's always been a classic Cambridge spot for all students wishing to temporarily escape the stresses and strains of a hectic workload. Situated close to the hill colleges, it’s the perfect place to watch the sunrise... whether you’re an early morning riser or returning from a night out on the town.

Resolution: Independent cafés – study more in the array of cute and quirky independent cafes in the centre of town… the fact that the full-time workers at Starbucks and Costa know not just my first name but my surname too is a sign that I need to change location!

Lotte, Vulture Editor

Recommendation: Botanical Gardens – the Botanical Gardens are my ultimate recommendation always. It’s free for university students and is a great alternative study spot, surrounded by nature (and they have a good gift shop to boot – botanical bookmark anyone?)

Resolution: Kineya Mugimaru – to go to Kineya Mugimaru for udon and tempura more! I can’t get enough. Also, Todoko near Mill Road for good value Japanese food.
