Green Lions train at Hull KR
Cambridge’s rugby league squad get some Super League training from Kingston Rovers, as Oxford looms in March
Cambridge’ rugby league squad – known as the Green Lions – enjoyed some professional training, with a January camp at Super League club Hull Kingston Rovers.
Early January saw CUARLFC travel north for a five day pre-season training camp to prepare for an intense Lent term in the run up to the Varsity game. A squad of 26 made the journey, which saw the team engage in several hours of conditioning and technical based drills each day.
The Cambridge team was able to take advantage of the high quality facilities top flight professional sports teams are able to offer, including the use of the state-of-the-art gym onsite. In addition, the squad were able to partake in a semi-contact training game with Championship setup Gateshead Thunder, as well as a few of the Hull KR side. The club tell us that much was learned.
These few days saw the squad set a marker at the start of what will be a packed term of Rugby League, providing a basis from which to begin the challenge of facing Oxford in March.
The team have also made a good start to this year’s BUCS league season, standing unbeaten in second place as we went to press, with three games in hand.
