Rugby Union: Oxford claim deserved win over Cambridge
A day to forget for the Cambridge team

Oxford beat Cambridge convincingly in their regional division with a score of 12–48, in a one-sided game dominated by the visiting side.
After a close first half, Oxford's superior fitness and lack of errors made them far better overall.
Oxford’s early pressure was made to count from early on in the first half, spinning the ball quickly and touching down in the corner to make it 0–5. Minutes later and their score was now ten, as Cambridge’s defence could only hold off so many dives for the line and the excellent Alex Travers touched down.
Cambridge grew into the game, better than Oxford for much of the remainder of the half, and scored a well-worked try from a quick penalty. Soon after, Oxford snuck another try through player-of-the-match, captain Lauren Webb, to make it 5–15. Cambridge camped on the Oxford try line for the final moments of the half, but Oxford's well-drilled defence held them off.
Cambridge started brightly in the second period, with Polly Hipkiss stepping two defenders before going over. A conversion made it 12–15. Then the floodgates opened for Oxford.
Excellent offloading and the speed of their ball movement made five unanswered tries for Oxford, including a hat-trick for Clodagh Holmes, to make the final score 12–48. The Dark Blues deserved the win.
