Jesus beat Queens’ to maintain perfect start
Cai La Trobe-Roberts starred as Jesus beat Queens’ 6-2 at home last weekend

Newly-promoted Jesus continued their perfect start to the season with 6-2 victory over Division One mainstays, Queens'.
Robust defending and a superb performance from front man Cai La Trobe-Roberts ensured that Jesus pushed on from their emphatic 10-1 win against Selwyn last weekend.
Despite the scoreline eventually looking comfortable, Jesus were put under a lot of pressure by Queens' in the first half, and had to rely on a superb performance by their goalkeeper James Hardy.
However, against the run of play, La Trobe-Roberts showed his first signs of magic in the 35th minute with a lovely flick past the Queens’ centre-back, before cutting the ball back to Isaac Ogunyemi to score.
Queens quickly responded when Jay Paul scored a penalty after a foul on Sean Cussack.
On the stroke of half-time, La Trobe-Roberts delivered a pinpoint corner, enabling Jamie Newnham to head Jesus back into the lead.
In the second-half, the pace of Jesus’ frontline caused increased problems against a tiring Queens team. In the 53rd minute, a superb ball over the top from Matt Griffiths enabled La Trobe-Roberts to delicately dink the ball over the keeper.
The game was put to bed in the 65th minute when Tomas Dugré tucked away a chance from the edge of the box.
Queens’ threat at the other end was nullified by stalwart Jesus defending, with particularly impressive man-marking by Boris Spasojevic and captain Alex McDonald.
La Trobe-Roberts completed his hat-trick in the 80th minute with a lovely finish on the half-volley, before Olly Dogget joined in on the action to score Jesus’ 6th and final goal.
Jay Paul then scored a late consolation for Queens.
Two games in, Jesus are looking like title contenders, currently joint top with Fitz. Next week, they travel to Churchill in the first round of Cuppers.
