Charlie Amesbury named CURUFC Captain
The Bristol Rugby full-back is set to replace Daniel Dass as skipper
Bristol Rugby’s Charlie Amesbury has been named the new captain of Cambridge University Rugby Union Football Club (CURUFC), replacing outgoing captain Daniel Dass.
The full-back is currently under contract with Bristol Rugby until June, and intends to see out the remainder of the Rugby Premiership season before joining up with Cambridge on a full-time basis this summer.
Amesbury, who helped Cambridge to a first victory over Oxford in seven years at December’s men’s Varsity Match, is in the first year of a two-year Master’s degree at the Judge Business School. He is now expected to lead out the Light Blues at Twickenham this December as they look to make it two wins in a row.
Speaking about the accolade, Amesbury said: “It’s a great feeling to be captain. I have a lot to live up to with the history of the position, but with such a great group of players we can put in the hard work to make sure we have another successful year.
“Dassy has set down some very strong foundations. Alongside Head Coach James Shanahan, he has left a vastly improved squad in terms of skills, conditioning and especially culture to pick from”
