University approves plans to expand Wilberforce Road complex
A “philanthropic donor” is set to fund the construction of two new hockey pitches

Wilberforce Road could be set for a major face-lift as the University Council have approved plans to expand the University’s sport complex.
It was revealed in Wednesday’s Reporter that an anonymous donor had offered funding to help construct two new synthetic hockey pitches for use by Cambridge University and Cambridge City Hockey Clubs. Planning permission for a second pitch is currently in place, while a third pitch is subject to approval from the local authority.
Wilberforce Road is currently home to an athletics track and a hockey pitch. The hockey pitch has been the home of Cambridge City Hockey club since 2009. Further expansion would give University and college teams easier access to the facilities, which would also be open to local hockey clubs and schools
