Single Review: James Blake – Limit to Your Love
Blogger’s favourite James Blake confirms his transition from electronic knob twiddler to ‘front of house’ singer with this breathtakingly soulful cover of Feist’s ‘Limit to Your Love’.
The single, released ahead of an upcoming debut LP, showcases Blake’s classically trained voice, whilst retaining the sub-bass and vocal manipulation characteristic of his earlier electronic work. Indeed Blake’s expressive if humble voice seems to suit the bittersweet lyrics. What we’re left with is a kind of stripped down R&B, redolent of The XX, but more importantly a catchy tune.
An English student would probably bang on about the Pinteresque pauses that punctuate the single, but I don’t do English, so I won’t. Just give it a listen, if you don’t like it then there’s probably something wrong with you.
