BREAKING: Bomb Scares at King’s, Girton and Churchill
King’s was evacuated this morning due to a bomb scare, making this the third evacuation in three days. Girton and Churchill also had potential bomb threats this afternoon, later confirmed as hoaxes.
King's College was evacuated this morning around 9am due to a bomb scare. However, after around an hour students were allowed to return to college when it was confirmed to be another hoax, similar to the other false alarms of the past two days. As no members of the public were yet on site the disruption, except to students, was minimal.
This afternoon there were also scares at Girton and Churchill although, as expected by this time, there was later found to be no real threat. Disruption has therefore been minimised and having to evacuate the entire college, as Clare did yesterday, has so far been avoided.
This has been the third consecutive day of bomb scare in the city making it all but certain that there is some link between the events and raising the unfortunate possibility of more false alarms continuing over the coming week. Some colleges have already taken the step of emailing students with evacuation plans just as a precaution. The University declined to say whether they thought there was a link between the events, instead saying it would be up to the police to ascertain how the three days' events were related.
The police have stated that they believe the events to be part of a series of hoaxes on university campuses, as there has been a considerable increase in alerts in the last month. Bath Spa University was also the subject of a bomb scare this morning, bringing its total to two in the past week, and Durham and Bristol were also affected in a similar manner at the end of April.
