Lewis Goodall, Nina Kruscheva, and Jax Jones included in Union Easter 2026 termcard
This term’s events include a debate titled ‘This House Believes Thatcher Liberated the Proletariat’
The Cambridge Union has released its Easter 2026 termcard, including notable journalists, politicians, and celebrities.
The Easter term President, Jack Peters, said of the termcard: “this term’s programme is centred around putting orthodoxy on trial to challenge the conventional narratives surrounding many of the most consequential questions of our time.”
The Union will enter a ‘quiet period’ between Week 5 and Week 9, due to Easter term exams. There are no debates, talks or speaker’s panels in this period, although weekly debates, events and panels continue before and after.
The Union has already hosted a debate and speaker event this term. The debate motion on 30 April was ‘This House Believes We Are Better Off With Billionaires.’ Tom Harwood, Deputy Political Editor of GB News, and Dr Ellie Chowns MP, a Green Party politician, spoke for the proposition and opposition respectively.
On 27 April, the composer and pianist Ludovico Einaudi attended the Union for a speaker’s event, which included a live performance.
There are five debates this term, with motions including ‘This House Believes AI Will Kill the Artist’, ‘This House Believes Modern LGBTQ+ Activism Fails its Community’, and ‘This House Believes Thatcher Liberated the Proletariat’.
Debates Officer, Ted Yip, said: “our programme of debate extends that mirror of reflection beyond Thursday evenings, and offers a moment of philosophical inquisition into the times we are living through.”
Among the speakers invited this Easter are the musician and DJ Jax Jones, the journalist Lewis Goodall, and Chief of Staff to the late Alexei Navalny, Leonid Volkov. The Union will also be hosting panels on the invasion of Afghanistan, Chernobyl, and the 1951 Refugee Convention.
Speaker’s Officer Freddie Bishop addressed members, saying “even if you disagree with [the speakers] […] you can respect the courage it takes to speak in a world jampacked with ideas at a university where some of the brightest in the world gather.”
Alongside its debates and speaker’s events, the Union will also host its annual garden party this term – this year’s theme is 1980s Miami.
Also included are the annual Eurovision Watch Party, a launch party for the Cambridge University Charity Fashion Show zine, and the termly President’s Tea.
