Two men have been arrested after a 20-year-old man was murdered in Mill Park, Cambridge on Friday (01/08). 

Police say they were called with reports of violence at 11:27pm on Friday, with the victim being pronounced at 12:01am. He was a student at English language school EF International Language Campuses Cambridge. 

Cambridgeshire Constabulary announced on Saturday (02/08) that a 21-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of murder, with a 50-year-old man being arrested on suspicion of an offender. Both men, who are from Cambridge, are currently in custody at Thorpe Wood Police Station. 

EF International Language Campuses said that it is working with police who are investigating the man’s death, according to the BBC.

The language said in a statement: “We are deeply saddened to confirm that one of our adult students was fatally injured on Friday night in a public space,” adding: “At this time, we understand the attack was carried out by a member of the public in an isolated incident.” 

"The safety and wellbeing of our students is our top priority [....] We are providing support to all students and staff affected by this tragic event and have organised counselling sessions,” it continued.

The statement concluded: “Our thoughts are with the student's loved ones during this incredibly difficult time and we have offered our full support. We will not be commenting further while the investigation is ongoing.” 

EF International Language Campuses Cambridge offers English classes to overseas students, who can opt for courses lasting anywhere between two and 52 weeks. The school is based a 15-minute walk from Mill Park, where the student died.  

Detective Inspector Dale Mepstead, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, said: “We would like to thank the public for their support and assistance following our appeal. The investigation remains ongoing, and we continue to urge anyone with information who has not yet come forward to contact us.”
