Ballare or 'Cindies' is a favourite amongst Cambridge studentsSimon Lock

Ballare nightclub, affectionately known by students as ‘Cindies’, has today (16/11) officially announced that they are closing.

The nightclub, a student Wednesday night staple, announced their closure in a facebook post, writing “Today is a very sad day. It is with a heavy heart we must confirm that Ballare will not be reopening its doors!”

The closure of Ballare follows planning permission being granted for a hotel in the Lion Yard Shopping Centre as part of the Centre’s redevelopment.

The plans initially included space for the club, however, in their post, Ballare detailed that “despite our best efforts, the landlord has failed to accommodate a workable space fit for [a] nightclub to operate in”.

The post continued: “On behalf of our staff and management we would like to say thank you for all the amazing memories”.

Ballare has been a nightclub in the Lion Yard Shopping Centre for over 40 years, where it has “been at the heart of Cambridge’s nightlife!” The Club was launched initially as Ronelles, later rebranding as Cinderella Rockerfella’s (Cindies) and then 5th Avenue, coming to be named Ballare in 2001.

The facebook post announcing the clubs closure has already amassed over 600 likes on facebook, over 400 comments and over 200 shares.
