John McDonnell to visit CULC
Shadow Chancellor will address the Labour Club at the Union in December

The Cambridge Universities’ Labour Club (CULC) announced today that Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer John McDonnell will speak in Cambridge on 2nd December.
The event will take place at 7pm in the Union Chambers, and will be co-hosted with the Cambridge Union Society. Information as to who will be able to attend has not yet been released.
As Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn’s staunch supporter and key economic advisor, McDonnell is expected to draw large crowds. In September last year, the appearance of Jeremy Corbyn at Cambridge’s Great St Mary’s Church during his leadership campaign reached full capacity, with queues extending through Market Square.
According to the Labour Club bulletin, McDonnell will deliver a speech followed by an opportunity for attendees to ask questions, moderated by Speakers Officer Josh Jackson.
Jackson, a vocal supporter of Corbyn, described the upcoming event as “a momentous occasion for the Labour Club”. He added that as it will be held shortly following the 2016 Autumn Statement, McDonnell may “touch on some of the most pressing issues of the time”.
“This will surely be a great way to round up an amazing Michaelmas term in CULC with one of the biggest speakers we’ve had.”
