Student assaulted on Magdalene Bridge
Police investigating after Murray Edwards student was attacked in early hours of Monday morning
A student from Murray Edwards College was assaulted while walking across Magdalene Bridge in the early hours of Monday morning.
According to an email circulated by some colleges, the undergraduate was approached by a drunk man asking her for money. She ignored the man and continued to walk towards Castle Hill before becoming aware that he was following her.
He then grabbed and assaulted her, but stumbled, allowing the student to escape and return to her college. Police are investigating the incident.
The email urges people to remain “extremely vigilant” when walking in and around Cambridge, particularly at night.
The assault follows several warnings issued by Senior Tutors about incidents involving Cambridge students last week.
On the evening of the 7th October, a female Selwyn student was grabbed by a man on a bicycle while running on Grange Road.
A similar incident occurred on the 4th October, when a female student walking on Queen’s Road near Clare College was grabbed by a man in his 50s.
The man, who was wearing a high-visibility vest, let go of the student after a few minutes, claiming that he only wanted to ask directions to the police station.
