Grace on Claire:

What were you hoping for?

“I wasn't particularly looking for the one”Erika Bunjevac for Varsity

I was hoping for a fun evening!

So, you guys met at the Mitre, what were the vibes like? Did the date meet your expectations?

The vibes were good, I like the Mitre because you don’t really run into people you know, but it also has a good atmosphere. I had a good time, it met my expectations, we stayed until last orders, so the chats were good!

What were your first impressions?

Her hair was very distinctive. She was smiley and pretty and her jacket was nice.

What did you guys talk about? Did you have much in common?

“We were energetically similar”

We didn’t have much in common, but we were energetically similar. We spoke about societies, Cornish nationalism, pints!

Were there any awkward moments?

I don’t think so. The conversation was easy-going and free-flowing.

How would you describe Claire in three words?

Bubbly, chatty, interesting.

What do you think Claire thought of you?

I think she liked me too. We had a good chat, and we stayed till the end which is a positive sign.

Would you see Claire again?

I’d see her again platonically.

What would you rate the date out of ten?

Eight.

If you could change anything about the evening, what would it be?

No, I thought it was good all round!

Claire on Grace:

What were you hoping for?

From reading the other articles I thought it would be likely my match would be someone I knew, so I was hoping for it to be someone I’ve never met before. I wasn’t particularly looking for ‘the one’, but I was excited about meeting someone and having fun chats and gaining insight into another miniature world at Cambridge. It’s also great to meet other gay people because sometimes the bubbles can be quite small.

So, you guys met at the Mitre, what were the vibes like? Did the date meet your expectations?

We stayed until last orders, it was nice but quiet. We were waiting at the bar for a while to order drinks! We found a cosy corner spot and chatted away. The date met my expectations – it was really nice that, although we had a few mutuals, we didn’t know each other properly. We got on really well and had a nice chat and a great evening, which is what I wanted.

What were your first impressions?

I thought she was bubbly, smiley and chatty which put me at ease a lot. I wanted a good conversationalist, and she was exactly that.

What did you guys talk about? Did you have much in common?

“We are from very different backgrounds, but we bonded over our love for living in Cambridge”

We had some similar interests, like rugby and the fact that we’ve both travelled a lot. There wasn’t any overlap in the societies we are part of. We shared stories, and our general Cambridge experience. We are from very different backgrounds, but we bonded over our love for living in Cambridge.

Were there any awkward moments?

No, our conversation flowed really smoothly. Even from the start there were no awkward silences or gaps.

How would you describe Grace in three words?

Bubbly, chatty, enthusiastic.

What do you think Grace thought of you?

I though we had a good bond, we got on really well, and the more we spoke the more we realised we had similarities. We had a good laugh, and it was a nice vibe, but I didn’t feel a romantic spark from her.

Would you see Grace again?

It was very platonic vibes from both sides, I thought. I’d definitely see her as a friend again. We got on and because we have mutual friends, if I bump into her or see her I’d definitely speak to her.

What would you rate the date out of ten?

Seven and a half.

Do you have any anecdotes that you’d tell your friends?

We discovered that we’ve both played rugby at the same time, so we probably have met on the pitch indirectly and played against each other!
