Have you ever had to join a group of strangers in a house share? Ever had that feeling of doubt about your potential housemates? Well Dirty Laundry has you covered! Explore these three hilarious flatmates’ shenanigans which will make any new tenant think twice about joining this student house!

It was so exciting to walk into a room with a full audience, there was a brilliant energy of excitement for this sketch show, and it did not disappoint. Dirty Laundry explores what it is like to live with other people and to have someone new join the nest. Each sketch is well thought out, with impacting jokes. This show will take you back to your university days, which may have been a mere 3 weeks ago for most members of the audience.

“The audience was in tears from laughter (and I’m sure you will be too)”

There is a lot of absurdist humour to be had in this show, with appearances from zoo animals in ASMR sleeping podcasts, to a postal dating romance between two soldiers. The audience was in tears from laughter (and I’m sure you will be too) from the range of sketches and sketch styles this show has to offer. There are sudden full cast breakouts into song and dance, news reports from across the world, and lots of conversations back and forth between characters on stage.

The clever use of audio and lighting was really nice to see. Rather than just using music and lights between sketches, you’ll catch some sketches using voice overs or lighting beats, which adds a lot of fun and originality to the sketch format.

This show has a lot to offer in terms of musical comedy as well. We get to experience many different types of musical humour, from Gregorian Chants about student landlords, a purposefully out of tune song around a campfire, and an A capella skit about lost keys.

A couple of sketches leaned towards ‘hard’ puns, however most sketches stuck with situational comedy. The main theme of this show is about getting to know people, for all of their quirks and flaws. Maybe they insist on cleaning the dishes along with the rest of the house after a dinner party, maybe they ‘can’t be asked’ to help out with large political movements, maybe they just need a break from it all. Maybe, they themselves are just like a pile of dirty laundry.

Horrible Herstories review

Towards the end of the show we see some well thought out audience participation. The audience plays the part of a group of potential new flatmates joining the house share, so obviously, we need to get to know the new flatmate! We see the audience quizzed about how they’d deal with washing up left in the sink for a good few days, or what they’d bring to the house.

Overall, this show is a great, fun, light hearted sketch show which had a full audience laughing non stop. I would highly recommend this show to finish off a perfect day at the Fringe.

Dirty Laundry is showing at the Greenside on Infirmary Street on the 5-20th August (but not the 14th!)
