30 years and 15 albums – a history few bands can match. Bad Religion are undoubtedly one of the most important punk bands of the last few decades and not only because of their longevity. Their brand of intelligent (their main songwriter has a PhD from an Ivy League college), frantic and melodic punk rock has been a shining example for years.

Dissent of Man upholds this and switches between blasts of political protest driven by furious drumming in tracks such as ‘Only Rain’ and calmer, singalongs like finisher ‘I Won’t Say Anything’. Unfortunately the album drags over 15 songs and it feels like Bad Religion are taking it easy by the end. ‘Ad Hominen’ is typical of the faults, its powerful verses robbed of their strength by a lazy, drawn out chorus. Dissent of Man feels like a few too many of Bad Religion’s rough edges have been smoothed out over time.
