Top five superhero films
We pick our favourite superheroes films

The Incredibles
Forced into retirement and trying to live ‘normal’ civilian lives, a super-powered family are propelled back into action when Mr Incredible starts going on secret missions. With great characters and incredibly quotable comedy, Pixar’s 2004 animated film captures the essence of the superhero family.
Captain America: The First Avenger
With impressive CGI turning Chris Evans into the skinny Steve Rogers, it takes a super soldier serum to make him into the heroic Captain America. The Marvel Cinematic Universe’s period piece, Captain America: The First Avenger is the perfect origin story.
Superman
Christopher Reeve strikes the perfect balance between Clark Kent and Superman in this 1978 film. Heartwarming and optimistic, but with special effects outdated enough to laugh at, Superman is the pinnacle of superhero films.
Marvel’s Avengers Assemble
To ignore the impressive feat of Joss Whedon’s film would be ridiculous. As one of the highest grossing films of all time, the success of Marvel’s Avengers Assemble is unprecedented. Bringing together the heroes of Marvel’s solo films to stop the evil Loki from destroying New York, Whedon made superhero team-ups a mainstay in cinemas.
X-Men: First Class
Rebooting the X-Men universe with younger stars, X-Men: First Class is an origin story of sorts. The film focuses on the early friendship (and fall out) of Professor X and Magneto, gathering a bunch of unknown mutants to help each other learn about their powers, and defeat Sebastian Shaw.
