Campaigners arrive at the Guildhall in shark costumes (no, we’re not joking)
On Wednesday two intrepid volunteers from Fin Free Cambridge delivered a petition, containing 3595 signatures to the Cambridge GuildHall, dressed as sharks. The local community group is hopes to make Cambridge the first UK city to take a strong stance against the use of shark fins. The issue of how to make Cambridge shark fin free will now be debated by the City Council when it meets on 25th October.

Shark fins are used in a variety of ways, including for food production; they are considered a delicacy in some countries. The UK is currently ranked 19th in the world for shark fin exports. According to Fin Free Cambridge, 4 business in Cambridge currenlty use shark fins. 50% of the of UK’s 21 native sharks species are now listed as threatened.
