Charlie Gilmour heading back to Girton
Charlie Gilmour is confirmed to be returning to resume his studies at Girton next October.
It was announced today that Charlie Gilmour, the adopted son of Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour, will be resuming his studies in Cambridge next October, after being released from prison in November, serving only four months of his sixteen month sentence.
Gilmour is reading History at Girton College, and his arrest and imprisonment saw a huge response from students, including Cambridge Defend Education, and CUSU also campaigned for his admittance back into the university after his release from prison.
Gilmour received his sentence in July 2011 for his role in the riots in London against the government's tuition fee rise, and many at the tiem protested against the severity of his sentence, claiming he was being made an example of by the courts.

During the riots Gilmour had been caught hanging from the Union Jack on the Cenotaph in war memorial in London and leaping on a car in the convoy carrying the royal family in what was described as a "drug fuelled" rampage.
Gilmour apologised for his behaviour after the incident and at the hearing of his case, saying that he had not been aware of the significance of his actions.
The court case against Gilmour last year was pushed back to allow Gilmour to finish his second year, meaning he should be starting his third and final year from October 2012.
A college spokesman said: ‘’Girton College Council has decided to allow Mr Gilmour to return in October 2012 subject to him providing, and abiding by, assurances as to his future good behaviour.’’
