Pro-Palestine activists have graffitied Alex Wood Hall, the Cambridge Labour Party offices, accusing local MP Daniel Zeichner of failing to advocate for an end to the violence in Gaza.

The red graffiti, which appeared on Monday night (04/08), read: “Zeichner, blood on your hands” and “Free Gaza”.

Action reporting site This Is Not A Drill stated that the graffiti was “in protest against the inaction of MP Daniel Zeichner and the Labour Party as a whole in the face of genocide”.

One activist told This Is Not A Drill: “Despite representing a city with active Palestinian campaigns across the community and universities, Zeichner has toed the genocidal party line, failing to stand for a ceasefire or any meaningful justice for the Palestinian people.”

They claimed: “People have tried contacting him about Palestine, but all we get is half-baked apologies for the Zionist regime. He can’t claim to represent Cambridge while he’s ignoring so many of us who want an end to genocide, occupation and colonisation.”

The graffiti appeared at the end of a “national day of action” organised by the UK branch of the Palestinian Youth Movement (PLM), which called for a “national siege on Labour”. Protests took place across the country, including in Birmingham, Edinburgh, Liverpool, and various areas of London.

As part of the day of action, the PLM made four demands to the Labour Party: the imposition of a two-way arms embargo on Israel, an end to RAF surveillance flights over Gaza, the use of UN mechanisms and sanctions to force the entry of aid, and the resignation of Foreign Secretary David Lammy.

In April of last year, Alex Wood Hall was targeted in a similar incident, when the words “Is this really the lesser of two evils?” were painted in red on the building. The activists accused the party of “complicity in Israel’s genocide in Palestine,” and of having “failed to call for an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire in Gaza”.

The offices were also targeted in May 2021, when environmental group Extinction Rebellion vandalised the offices with yellow and green paint., writing: “Climate inaction is social injustice.”

Alex Wood Hall is also used as the office for counselling charity Choices, which supports victims of childhood sexual abuse.
