Blame it on the miraculous happening that a city is able to float on water, but when it comes to the Venice Film Festival, style miracles do happen. The Venice Film Festival has always had a history of selecting diverse, unusual and original films, and the fashion of the festival seems to comply with this concept. Fashion at Venice is much like a symbolic representation of the city itself: incomparable to anywhere else. Elegant, authentic and understated, these looks are the very essence of Italian class.

This year’s prestigious 74th Venice Film Festival brought with it inspiring innovation that must be down to the ethereal waters. We saw stars take a more artistic approach to their wardrobes, with understated glamour and sensual elements pervading the red carpets. With crushed velvets, feathered ruffles and embroiled tulle, the Venice Film Festival brought with it all with exquisite detail both on and off screen.

“Elegant, authentic and understated, these looks are the very essence of Italian class.”

1. Loving Pablo premiere – 6th September 2017

Penelope Cruz in Atelier Versace and Atelier Swarovski jewellery

Penelope Cruz channelled showgirl vibes in this feather boa Atelier Versace dress. The angelic glistening white of the dress was all awash with crystals as the skirt descended into a tail of swan-like feathers.

2. Mother! premiere – 5th September 2017

Jennifer Lawrence in Christian Dior Couture and Jimmy Choo sandals

No one can say no to Christian Dior Couture. Maria Grazia Chiuri’s contemporary and effeminate designs have been hugely successful on this year’s red carpets and Jennifer Lawrence at the Mother! premiere is no exception. Stitched detailing of tulle descended into a ball-worthy full skirt.

3. Loving Pablo photo call – 6th September 2017

Penelope Cruz in Temperley

A wash of Mexican-inspired bright colours of fuchsia, royal blue and rapeseed yellow were woven into a tulle peasant style dress. This look was understated and elegant.

4. The Leisure Seeker premiere – 3rd September 2017

Susan Sarandon in Hugo Boss

The best accessory on the red carpet? Sunglasses of course. Susan Sarandon let her eyes do the talking with a classic pair of oversized black sunglasses that gave even Holly Golightly a run for her money.

5. Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri premiere – 4th September 2017

Nicole Warne in Michael Lo Sordo

A flame of satin red silk from none other than Michael Lo Sordo descended the red carpet this Venice film festival. A vision in red, this look was classic, timeless and seductive.

Rebecca Hall in Monse

Personally one of my favourite looks throughout the entire week, Monse brought something different to the table. The structured masculine silhouette was perfectly accompanied with the feminine delicacy of crushed velvet. A minimal yet powerful look, a lesson everyone can learn in that sometimes less definitely equates to more
