The Trinity Hall June Event has been 10 months in the making, totalling four weeks for every hour of May Week fun and frivolity on the night.

Some guests didn’t even know they would be going to Cambridge when planning began in August, brainstorming ideas for the coming event.

The real work started in October, though, when Trinity Hall elected their committee. They kicked things off in Michaelmas by finalising the theme, drawing up the design and booking the musical acts. The result is a June Event inviting you into the ‘Mind’s Eye’ – carrying the slogan, ‘Picture What You Can’t See’. The headline: only a Jungle DJ set.

In Lent, they confirmed all the contractors – before focus shifted to their launch party in collaboration with Haze. Held at Fez, it was itself an occasion so hefty in scale that it reminded the organisers just what could be achieved at the main June Event. “I guess there are very few boundaries to what you can do if you set your mind to it, which really appealed to us as a prospect,” says vice-president Daniel Bakşi.

“It’s a very different experience to anything I have ever done before, in the way it merges creativity and vision with a lot of organisation,” he explains. “Apart from gaining invaluable experience in some industries, it has also been an amazing way of engaging in college life.”

No doubt, the set-up during May Week has been one of the most challenging aspects for the committee throughout the year-long process. It seems similarly certain, though, that turning spreadsheets and plans into physical reality will be rewarding on the night.

After all the hard graft, as well as enacting a fair bit of diplomacy within the group, the joint joy and relief of a good job well done will be lit enough to make up for the dark side of May Week planning.

For the first time ever, the Trinity Hall June Event have enlisted a dedicated sustainability officer for their committee, with the aim of putting together the most environmentally and socially friendly night ever at Tit Hall. Not only will they be adopting the Sustain-a-ball initiative, ClientEarth are one of their two principal charities.

Describing themselves as “international lawyers committed to securing a healthy planet”, they have been working incredibly hard in aid of the environment. Take last autumn, when ClientEarth won a High Court case against the Government for failing to tackle air pollution.

The committee have also tried to source materials locally wherever possible, extending to their own June Event jumpers. Perhaps most impressive of all, they have managed to expand the proportion of their food options which don’t contain any meat to 80% this year.

“Not only is this good for the environment,” adds the committee president Sophie Bindslev. “It means that in a time where May Ball and June Event ticket prices are soaring, we can be sure that we’re providing great value-for-money for everyone attending at Trinity Hall.”

After all the meticulous planning, the Trinity Hall June Event looks set to live long into the future – and without damaging it either
