Under pressure: Cambridge had to work hard against physical opponentsCharlie Peacock

Blues 39 - 31 Birmingham 3rds

The day didn't begin well when Birmingham didn't have the sports hall available on time, delaying play by an hour. After a controversial chat between captains about warm-up space, it was clear Cambridge would not be pushed around. Birmingham as ever came out with a lot of aggression, along with a rather loud home crowd which slightly rattled Cambridge's play. Nonetheless, the Blues put in a very strong performance, working against the contact controversies which weren't being picked up. The attacking duo of Izzy Bell and Frances Lee-Barber successfully capitalised on the shots, with Izzy getting man of the match for the third time this season! Hayley Smith adapted well from her usual WD position to playing in the circle with Charlotte Plumtree, getting tips and interceptions to help Cambridge maintain their lead. Jodie Green and Zoe Sciver both had a solid game at WD stopping the Birmingham WA from making damage. Emma Langley-Jones and Nicky Taylor did some lovely movement and feeds into the circle, despite facing fiesty opposition. In addition, Emily Coulter lead the team well as Captain, taking a few players out on her way. All in all a very strongly fought match and a well deserved win, despite the controversies along the way. The Blues next match is at home against Befordshire 1sts - this looks set to be the toughest game of the league!

Jays 50 - 31 De Montfort 1sts

The Jays got off to a shaky start after being met by an aggressive and lively De Montfort team. However, the team began to get into their stride halfway through the first quarter with good distribution of the ball down the court. With a lead of 12-8 going into the second quarter, the shooting partnership of Emily Elliott and Maddy Eno began to take shape as the Jays pulled away in the second and third quarters. Catrin Bush and Lucy Sharples had excellent vision, driving onto the edge of the circle to provide strong feeds into the D. At the end of the third quarter the score stood at 37-21 to the Jays, with De Montford appearing riled. The zone defence of Kate Garden and Charlotte Salisbury in the final quarter kept De Montfort out, as the Jays capitalised on the third quarter advantage to end the game 50-31.Man of the Match: Catrin Bush
