New left-wing student society claims Corbyn support
Corbyn, in a video posted by Cambridge University Left Society featuring its co-chairs alongside the politician, wished the society ‘all the very very best’

The newly established Cambridge University Left Society (CULS) has shared a video in which Your Party leader Jeremy Corbyn offered his support.
On Tuesday (09/09), CULS posted a video of its two co-chairs alongside newly-established Your Party leader Jeremy Corbyn.
In the video, Corbyn stated: “We’ve been here this evening, we’ve had a great time, and we’ve had a fantastic chat about things.”
He further added: “I want to wish the society all the very very best.” The MP for Islington North did not mention any specifics about the student society.
However, Corbyn did propose a potential visit to Cambridge, saying that he was “looking forward to coming to Cambridge and having a chat with you all about how we build big, massive, exciting grassroots organisations”.
The Instagram post caption reads: “A message of support from @jeremycorbyn”.
Corbyn, alongside former Labour MP Zarah Sultana, co-founded a new political party in July, provisionally named ‘Your Party’.
In the Instagram post, Corbyn asserted: “We’re here because of the situation that people face because of the global conflicts, because of the situation facing people in Palestine and because of the horrendous levels of child poverty in Britain.”
Corbyn is not unfamiliar with Cambridge's political scene. In 2021, he spoke at the Cambridge Union. He also visited Cambridge in 2017 to attend a Labour canvassing event for the Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.
This comes as Varsity reported last week on the launch of the new society, in which they criticised the Cambridge University Labour Club (CULC) was for "ceasing to provide" a meaningful forum for student politics.
In response, CULC called the society’s allegations “inaccurate” and “dishonest”.
Unlike left-wing societies at Manchester, Newcastle, and Warwick, the Cambridge society has not officially linked itself to the new political party.
Oxford University students recently launched a Your Party society, announced via an Instagram post earlier this week. The society called itself the “union of the left” at the University.
