SU to move to ‘new and improved’ building
The SU will move to the University Centre, after being based at 17 Mill Lane for the past 6 years
The SU have announced that they are moving to a new location, after being based at 17 Mill Lane for the past 6 years.
The SU’s new home will be the University Centre on Granta Place, which according to the SU, will be “better equipped” to house the SU and its functions.
The new space will contain a new set of offices, where SU staff and sabbatical officers will work, and a new lounge, where students can socialise, work and hold events.
This comes after several candidates in recent SU elections pledged to improve the facilities offered by the SU, and make the building a more social space.
In a tweet, the incoming Undergraduate President Zaynab Ahmed said that she couldn’t wait to welcome students to the new space, and that she looked forward to “hosting events, forums and so much more!”
Despite being based at Mill Lane for the past 6 years, the SU said that the space was always supposed to be temporary. Because of this, they were limited in how much they could develop the space.
The Gates Scholars, who were based at the University Centre, will move to 17 Mill Lane instead.
In the next week, the SU will ask students what they want to see in the lounge, and upload some photos of the new space.
The University Centre will officially become the SU’s home on Monday 11 April.
