The Busy Twist have been announced as the first of two headliners for the Girton Spring Ball 2018.

Describing themselves as ‘pursuers of global tropical music culture’, the collective have a sound inspired by Afro, Latin and UK Bass music, a style they developed during a series of recent trips to Ghana and have since taken to festivals and nightclubs across the UK.

Timi Sotire, Music Officer for the Girton Spring Ball, said her choice of headline act was fuelled by a desire to improve the representation of the afrobeat genre on the Cambridge ball scene. Of The Busy Twist specifically, she said: “I love how they eloquently bring the vibrancy and warmth of Ghanaian music with an English spin, they will definitely steal the show at the Spring Ball.” No doubt that this will set the expectations of ticket holders very high for the headline performance indeed.

With theme of ‘Mortal Engines’, which is based around the sci-fi dystopian genre of steampunk, the Girton Spring Ball will take place on Friday 16th March, providing not only a celebration for another eight weeks of hard work, but one last chance to let off some steam (or should that be steampunk…) before exam term. The 2018 ball will be the first for four years, after the biannual event was cancelled in 2016 following the death of an undergraduate in the week before it was due to take place.

Standard tickets are priced at £110, with various upgrades also available; although an extra taxi fare is inevitable for non-Girtonians, this might be the only incentive you get to visit Girton during your time here.

The second headliner will be announced later this term, but tickets are available now from the event website
