No, no, no, you silly boy,

The Truth is just another Lie.

Put down your pretensions

Of objectivity, fidelity;

It's not the words that make the Truth,

It's the might of the man who speaks it.

Truth is a weapon, Truth an affront -

Truth is a mere allegation,

With an army marching before it,

And a navy sailing beside.

Since neither you own, set aside your sweet

Affections and see

what I've said is the only Truth you'll ever hear.

He could have said a thousand things.

Looking at her cracked visage, worn

He thinks back to his father’s pinewood face

splintered, nose long from a lifetime of deceits.

He thinks back to the girls back home

The harlequin smiles and I love yous

He met with silence.

His Truth doesn’t bend for others. It doesn’t warp, or crack

Or rust. It is all we have.

It is all we know.

He gazes once more into her eyes, behind the porcelain skin,

As true a face as he ever saw.
