"The collective comedic teat of McAlister, Reich, Hall and Cameron"ROB EAGER

Photo albums are underrated. Yes, while we all benefit from storing all our best-loved photos on our laptops, memory sticks and Facebook walls there is nothing quite like the feeling of flicking through pages of memories and snapshots of time. And the best photos? They’re always the ones taken mid-laughter.

Disposables is a brand new sketch show heading out to Pembroke Cellars this week, combining sharp writing with a clever framing twist that is oh-so-just-that-little-bit-sentimental-but-not-too-much-this-is-still-comedy. The show begins with a group of amateur photographers reuniting after the death of a friend when one them of them announces he’s just won a photography competition. However, the others think the winning photo is theirs, and an argument ensues. As the quarrel proceeds, the old-timey version of “gurl, get out those receipts” is called forward as they delve into the photographic archive and into some seriously funny sketches.

“They are all positively gagging to create a tight, fast-paced show with a plethora of shiny new writing”

I spoke to the cast completely formally (because I’m not friends with any of them – a personal choice, not a comedic one) to get a better idea on what kind of comedy they want to inject into the cellars. And the answer? Fresh and fast and funny. This group is no stranger to the Cambridge comedy scene, having frequented smokers at the ADC, Corpus Playroom, Pembroke and even the most illustrious event of all, Robinson Beer Festival. This all makes it even more important to them that this show is new and exciting. They are all positively gagging to create a tight, fast-paced show with a plethora of shiny new writing, range of styles and sketch lengths to keep the laughter flowing right up until the very end.

Whilst some sketches may be character-led and some premise-led, they are all focused on comedy and bringing out everyone in the cast’s best talents. As a sketch troupe we are promised farcical, bizarre, satirical, character work, Will Hall, wordplay and a joke rate that it is hitting hard and fast. There is even the promise that if you don’t like one sketch then don’t worry, it’ll soon be ready to move on to the next! It’s disposable, if you like.

For two nights only, the collective comedic teat of McAlister, Reich, Hall and Cameron will collect and douse the audience in sharp writing, fun characters and witty concepts. Tickets are being picked up pretty quick, so grab one whilst you can and set about making memories.

Disposables runs from Tuesday 7th – Wednesday 8th March at Pembroke New Cellars, 9.30pm
