Fighting spirit in midnight Mountain Marathon
Cambridge duo push themselves to the limit, in a physical challenge that proved too much for many of their competitors

Last weekend saw very wet conditions at the annual Original Mountain Marathon, held in the Howgills hills near the Lake District. Two-man team Tom Lawfield and Michael Cannon, both Officer Cadets at Cambridge University Officer Training Corps, entered the overnight race against upwards of five-hundred competitors.

Of seven military teams within their class, the pair were one of only two to finish the 45km course. Conditions were wet and windy, making the overnight camp difficult for the tired competitors, who have to be entirely self sufficient and carry their own tent, food and fuel for the duration of the race.
Events such as this allow students to challenge themselves while learning new skills and getting paid for their time. For more information about the sporting and military activities of the Cambridge University Officer Training Corps, visit: http://www.army.mod.uk/UOTC/5472.aspx
