Apparently it’s World Nutella Day
How to celebrate the festival using just your microwave

Whilst the concept of a ‘World Nutella Day’, 5th February this year, may seem a little dubious – following ‘National Chocolate Covered Cherry Day’ in the US (January 3rd) and ‘National Peanut Butter Day’ in the UK (January 24th), who doesn’t want an excuse to indulge in a little more of their favourite choco-hazelnut spread?
This recipe is made in a microwave, doesn’t require kitchen scales and makes one (generous) portion – perfect for when you fancy something sweet but don’t have the time/equipment/energy to walk to Sainsbury’s.
Ingredients and equipment:
A big-ish mug, a microwave
1 tablespoon of butter
2 tablespoons of Nutella
1 egg
1 tablespoon of milk
3 tablespoons of plain flour
3 tablespoons of sugar
½ teaspoon of baking powder
Instructions:
1. Place the butter in your mug and blast in the microwave for 20-30 seconds or until liquid. Wait for it to cool a little.
2. Mix in the Nutella, then crack in the egg, followed by the milk. Mix well until all ingredients are incorporated.
3. Add the rest of the ingredients, and mix until combined evenly.
4. Sneaky extra step – for total gooey Nutella overload, use a teaspoon to pick up a small amount of spread about the size of a chocolate button and use your finger to push it off the spoon, allowing it to drop into the mixture. Repeat a few times, without stirring the cake mix.
5. Microwave your mug for 1 ½-2 minutes, dependent on how powerful your microwave is and how firm you want your cake. Keep a close eye on it – it will cook very quickly!
6. Leave to cool for a few minutes (it will be extremely hot) before digging in!
