Spoons is known for many things: cheap drinks, questionable music, and a really strong pro-Brexit agenda. But now everyone’s divorced uncle’s favourite boozer has a new claim to fame: its incredibly clean toilets.

Yes, our beloved Danger Spoons, The Regal, has been awarded a platinum rating by inspectors in the Loo of the Year Award 2018!

The awards which have been running since 1987, celebrate the best ‘away from home’ toilets in the country and are judged by inspectors who assess toilets across a number of categories. These include décor, cleanliness and maintenance with the platinum award being reserved only for the most “exceptional toilets”.

Speaking to Cambridge News, The Loo of the Year Awards 2018 managing director, Mike Bone, said: "The toilets at The Regal have been designed and fitted out to a very high standard and are both clean and well maintained.”

High praise indeed from the country’s foremost toilet expert.

Violet investigates: Can living like Mark Wahlberg make you more successful?

Violet dispatched two of our finest journalists to check them out and we can confirm that they are indeed some of the nicest toilets we’ve come across in Cambridge. My colleague, so impressed with the cleanliness of the facilities, offered to eat one of Spoons’ very reasonably priced burgers in one of the cubicles.

Thankfully he was talked out of it but did insist on drinking his Diet Coke in there.

Wetherspoons has previous form in competition, winning the coveted Golden Loo Seat trophy in 2010 for the overall Loo of the Year.

Keep up the good work, Regal!
