The Cambridge Pythons and Kent Falcons went into their final game of the season knowing that the winner would earn a chance of promotion, while the loser’s campaign would be over. In this winner-takes-all encounter, it would be Cambridge who would run our comfortable 17-0 winners, courtesy of another impressive performance. The victory means the Pythons win the East Conference.

After receiving the ball, Kent went three and out. On the punt, Tom Carr got through the line, blocked and recovered it, starting the offence on the Kent 35. The drive ended in a field goal, after the offence could not get past the three yard line.

On the ensuing kickoff, Jaason Geerts managed to recover the ball after it had bounced, giving the ball back to the Pythons. However, Cambridge could not capitalise. On the Kent drive, Carr forced a sackfumble and Ned Bransden recovered on the Kent six yard line.

Joe Moore ran the ball in for a touchdown the next play, giving Cambridge a 10-0 lead. The next Kent drive was another short one, and a bad snap on the punt put the ball on the Kent eight yard line for Cambridge. A Joe Yarwood pass to James Digby gave Cambridge a 17-0 lead. The remainder of the half was a couple of good drives for each team, but they all ended in punts.

The third quarter involved a lot of running plays, making it quick. Both teams again could not manage to score despite some lengthy possessions. In the fourth quarter, Kent put together a very long drive, making it all the way to the Cambridge seven yard line with a heavy pass focus. On the seven, they went for another pass to the middle of the field, but Jack Tavener pounced at the ball and made the interception. This allowed Cambridge to run out the remaining time, giving them the win and the East Conference championship.

Cambridge now go on to the southern playoffs representing the East Conference and will play Surrey in the first round. The winner of that match will go on to the final to play to be promoted to the Premiership.
