Russell Kane, the host of BBC Three's Live at the Electric, has been announced as the headline comedian for Trinity College May Ball. A favourite at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Kane has won numerous awards including the 2010 Edinburgh Comedy Award, and has performed alongside the likes of Russell Howard and Reginald D Hunter.

Julia Danskin, Vice President of the Trinity May Ball Committee, confirming the news, said that Kane is "sure to raise a laugh".

It was earlier announced that Trinity College's May Ball will feature R&B and hip-hop band Big Brovaz and the pop rock group Lawson.

Mary Price, one of the presidents of the Trinity May Ball committee, has confirmed that "Lawson are headlining Trinity May Ball. Big Brovaz, Chlöe Howl and Saint Raymond will be supporting, and Artful (one half of Artful Dodger) will be the headline DJ."

Lawson, whose debut album Chapman Square reached number 4 in the UK charts in October 2012, have been tipped as one of the biggest up-coming British groups active at the moment.

Big Brovaz, after winning a MOBO award in 2001, disbanded in 2007 after their second album failed to chart. However, commercial success with their first album, Nu-Flow, had ensured that the group cemented their place in the childhood memories of current students.

Saint Raymond, who has been named as a supporting act, is an acoustic singer-songwriter who has been much praised by Radio One DJs, and has recently announced that he will be Ed Sheeran's opening act for his tour this year.  Chlöe Howl is a 19 year-old singer-songwriter, and is set to support Ellie Golding's tour and release her own debut album this year.

Artful, one half of the R&B and garage DJ duo Artful Dodger, reached number 2 in the charts in 1999 with the single Re-Rewind, which helped to relaunch Craig David's career after he featured on the track.
