CUSU election results announced
The results are in from the controversial CUSU elections 2014
In a campaign largely marked by apathy from the student body, the majority of positions had only one candidate standing. A RON (re-open nominations) campaign has gained traction in the last week, and a Varsity poll revealed that only 1 in 5 students said they would vote.
Whilst electronic voting has been underway since Monday, ballot boxes were in colleges throughout today. From 8pm CUSU staff and Sabbatical officers have been counting the paper ballots in the grad union. After two hours of ballot-crunching, here are the results:
→ Helen Hoogewerf-McComb voted CUSU President; she wins recieved 1586 votes and RON recieved 1089.
→ Rob Richardson voted CUSU Education Officer and General Board Member; he received 1587 votes and RON received 972.
→ Amelia Horgan voted CUSU Women's Officer; she recieved 613 votes and RON received 303.
→ Richard Jones voted University Council Representative. In the first round of voting Richard received 760 votes, Natalia recieved 659 votes, and RON received 814. In the second round Natalia was elimininated, leaving Richard with 1195 votes and RON with 842.
→ Helena Blair voted Access and Funding Officer; she recieved1378 votes and Terri-Leigh Riley recieved 806 votes. RON recieved 594 votes.
→ Kevin Chang, the candidate who stood for abolition of all student debt, voted one of four NUS delegates, as well as Mark Chonofsky, Rosalyn Old and RON.
