Emmanuel PhD student dies in accident
Negar Miralaei was studying for her fourth year of PhD work

Negar Miralaei, a 4th year PhD student in Computer Science at Emmanuel College, is reported to have been killed in an accident in Iran.
Students at Emmanuel College were notified by the Senior tutor, Dr Robert Henderson, of Miralaei’s death at 5pm yesterday afternoon.
The Senior Tutor’s email said that he was “very sorry to report the sad news of the death”, and offered support to anyone affected.
Before coming to Cambridge, Miralaei did her BSc at Tarbiat Dabir Shahid Rajaee University and her Masters at Shahid Beheshti University, both in Iran.
Miralaei is the second student Cambridge PhD student to die abroad this year, following the death of Giulio Regeni.
A University spokesperson said: “our thoughts are with the family of Negar Miralaei.”
Affected Emmanuel students are recommended to see the college’s counsellor, Anne Hughes, whose CRSid is ah300.
