The Wilderness just got wilder
Jesus May Ball committee reveal the last names and acts who will be joining them in the wilderness
As the final countdown to Jesus May ball begins, the committee are pleased to announce Katherine Ryan as their Headline comedienne. The former Live at the Apollo host, who is also a regular on top TV comedy shows including Mock the Week and Never Mind the Buzzcocks, will be performing her live show at Jesus May Ball to what the committee are sure will be a packed out audience.
Ben Gallant, Head of Entertainments at Jesus May Ball, said “We’re absolutely delighted to have Katherine performing at the ball. She’s one of the most recognisable faces in UK comedy at the moment, and so fits perfectly into our line-up of current and up-and-coming acts.”
Last month, Varsity exclusively revealed the Ball's massive headline acts – Jack Garratt, Coasts and Clean Bandit – and, it seems that for comedy-lovers too, Jesus is the place to be in May Week 2016.
Additionally, Jesus May Ball are pleased to announce two of the UK’s leading tribute acts in Maroon 4 and I Am Beyonce. I Am Beyonce is not new to the Cambridge May ball scene: having performed at John's last year to rave reviews, the tribute act is something special to look forward to on Monday.
Performing as the support act for the night will be Jesus’ very own up and coming stars, B & the Jukeboys, in their final ever performance at the college. With such an incredible following around Cambridge, it’s hard not to draw parallels between Jesus’ latest musical prodigies and their now world famous predecessors Clean Bandit, who are also alumni of the college and with whom the Jukeboys will share a stage.
Bringing your night at Jesus to a climax will be the multi-instrumentalist, multi-talented London based group, The Fabulous Hurricanes. Now well known on the May Ball scene, this band is renowned as some of the most talented musicians in the country and offer real show-stopping potential with their unique fusion of blues, soul and a dash of improvisation.
But it seems that there is one more trick up the sleeve of Jesus’ Ents team. For the first time ever in a May Ball, Jesus will be play host to a Live Acapella Riff Off! With 2015 national university acapella champions, Semi-Toned, going head-to-head with Cambridge’s own Cadenza and King’s College’s All the King’s Men – fresh back from their US tour – this is an event not to be missed!
As the final countdown begins for the committee there seems to be a lot of expectation riding on what is set to be the 'wildest ball yet'. With three talented musical acts and a fourth experienced comedian joining the set, the ball looks set to rival the huge success of last year.
