Freshers' Week alcohol consumption is another ranking where Cambridge triumphs over OxfordTrafficJan82 via Wikimedia

Cambridge may be notorious for having only three night clubs, but this does not prevent students from enjoying themselves, according to a new survey by software provider Epos Now.

Revenues of bars and pubs in Cambridge soared by 16 per cent above the average for the city during Freshers’ Week this year, a survey has found, a greater increase than in any other university town.

The survey found that the next greatest increase in Freshers’ Week bar and pub revenues was in Bristol, at 13 per cent, followed by Nottingham at 11 per cent and Oxford at nine per cent.

Surprisingly, the figures in Leeds and Manchester, which have long been for famous for their nightlife, were just six per cent and two per cent respectively.

In April and May of this year, the University of Cambridge conducted a survey of Cambridge students’ drinking habits. It asked students how much alcohol they consumed, of what kind, and how regularly they consumed it. It also asked teetotal students for their perception of their less abstemious colleagues.
